As Hyderabad continues to expand rapidly beyond its traditional boundaries, the government has taken a major administrative step by merging 20 municipalities and 7 municipal corporations into the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). This restructuring aims to create a unified, planned, and efficient governance model for the growing metropolitan region.
With a total of 57 local bodies studied over the last six months, GHMC has reorganized the merged areas into five major administrative zones to ensure better urban planning, improved infrastructure, and seamless service delivery.
Benefits of the Merger
The integration of these municipalities into GHMC is expected to bring several key advantages:
-
Unified governance under a single urban administrative framework
-
Improved road networks, drainage, sanitation, and public utilities
-
Faster implementation of master plans and infrastructure development
-
Better coordination of civic services across extended city limits
-
Enhanced transparency in revenue, taxation, and project management
This move is seen as a major step toward transforming Hyderabad into a more advanced and systematically planned metropolitan city.
